Fresh Whole Wheat Roti
Tawa Roti is a traditional Indian bread that is cooked on a flat griddle or tawa. It is a simple and delicious unleavened bread that complements a wide range of Indian dishes. Here's a recipe to make Tawa Roti:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
- Water, as needed
- Salt to taste
- Ghee or oil, for cooking
Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well.
2. Gradually add water to the flour and knead it into a soft and smooth dough. Adjust the water quantity as needed.
3. Once the dough comes together, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes. This helps to relax the gluten and make the rotis softer.
4. After resting, divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls.
5. Take one dough ball and dust it with some flour. Roll it out into a thin circle using a rolling pin.
6. Heat a tawa or griddle over medium-high heat.
7. Place the rolled roti on the hot tawa and cook for about 30 seconds until you see small bubbles forming on the surface.
8. Flip the roti and cook the other side for another 30 seconds.
9. Now, using a pair of tongs, lift the roti and directly place it on an open flame. This will help it puff up and cook evenly. Be careful while doing this step.
10. Once the roti is cooked and has some brown spots, remove it from the flame and brush it with ghee or oil.
11. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls, rolling, cooking on the tawa, and then on the flame.
12. Serve the hot and freshly cooked Tawa Rotis with your favorite curries or dishes.
Enjoy your homemade Tawa Rotis!
