Veggie Pakora
Veggie pakora is a popular Indian snack made from a batter of chickpea flour (besan) mixed with various vegetables and spices. It is a delicious and crispy deep-fried snack that can be enjoyed on its own or as a side dish with chutney or sauce.
Here's a basic recipe for making veggie pakoras:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust according to your spice preference)
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds, crushed
- Salt to taste
- Water (as needed)
- Oil for deep frying
- Assorted vegetables (such as onions, potatoes, cauliflower, spinach, bell peppers, etc.), thinly sliced or chopped
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the chickpea flour, rice flour (if using), turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, crushed coriander seeds, and salt. Mix well.
2. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients and whisk to make a smooth batter. The consistency should be thick enough to coat the vegetables, but not too runny.
3. Add the sliced or chopped vegetables to the batter and mix until all the vegetables are coated evenly.
4. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
5. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the vegetable batter into the oil. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
6. Fry the pakoras until they turn golden brown and crispy. Flip them occasionally for even cooking.
7. Once done, remove the pakoras using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
8. Repeat the process with the remaining batter and vegetables.
9. Serve the veggie pakoras hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.
Note: You can customize the vegetables used in the pakoras according to your preference. Feel free to experiment with different combinations to create your own variations.
